Areas of Expertise
Risk Assessment
You have a legal duty to assess the risks to the health and safety of your employees (and risks to the health and safety of persons not in your employment) to which they are exposed while they are at work. In carrying out a risk assessment:
You should consult employees and health and safety representatives. It is a valuable way of involving the staff who do the work. They know the risks involved and scope for potentially dangerous shortcuts and problems. Employees are more likely to understand why procedures are put in place to control risks and follow them if they have been involved in developing health and safety practices in their workplace.
Method Statements
Method statements are required by law as part of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM), which governs health and safety in the construction industry. The regulations state that contractors must produce method statements for every project they undertake and that these statements must be followed throughout the project. Failure to comply with the regulations can result in significant penalties, including fines and legal action
COSHH, Noise & Vibration ( HAVS)
The ‘substances’ part of COSHH includes any form of hazardous material, including liquids, solids, fumes, dust, vapours, fibres, nano-particles, mists, gases and biological agents such as bacteria and viruses. The ‘hazardous’ part includes damage to lungs, skin, nose, mouth, genes, internal organs, eyes or central nervous system as well as the risk of injury due to combustion or explosion
The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 (the Noise Regulations) came into force for all industry sectors in Great Britain on 6 April 2006, The aim of the Noise Regulations is to ensure that workers' hearing is protected from excessive noise at their place of work, which could cause them to lose their hearing and/or to suffer from tinnitus (permanent ringing in the ears).
The Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 (the Vibration Regulations), came into force on 6 July 2005 and aim to protect workers from risks to health from vibration.
The regulations introduce action and limit values for hand-arm and whole-body vibration
